I don't know how this happened but somehow I was named Team Captain for our company in tomorrow's Corporate Run.
If you know me well, which most people don't, you'd know I am no where near the 'team captain' personality. I was never on Student Council and I was never president nor any authoritative figure in anything scholastic (granted I was president of the Hello Kitty club, but com'on, that's elementary stuff). In fact, I'm the person who stands next to the team captain or president, pretend I do important things, and then take the credit. No, seriously, I am that person. My strengths aren't in organization or leading but in being adorable and entertaining clients with witty commentary. (hence my title, Director of Client Relations) (just kidding, I'm not that adorable) (just kidding again, sometimes I really am.)
So, to much of my surprise, my boss apparently thought i was capable enough to 'unite and excite the forces' and create our TEAM. This gives lil ol' me lots of anxiety; I had to order t-shirts, sign registration forms, and keep everyone 'in the loop'. All which left NO room for procrastintion, my dear longtime nemesis. I don't even think anyone takes me seriously because every time I mention anything regarding deadlines or the corporate run, I bust out in laughter, as do they in response.
However, Id like to say this small project i was assigned has matured me a bit. Despite the fact that today is the last day to turn in the forms and I'm about to leave my office to head over to drop them off, i have grown as an adult and will now take on more endeavours that require "leadership and discipline" and I encourage everyone else to try the same. Ive always sold myself short by saying 'nah, I never do things like that' and will now replace it with 'yes I can and yes I will'. Remember, Its never too late, or too soon, to become the Class President-type.
To end this, if anyone is interested in watching an ostrich run down Brickell Ave, stop by the corporate run tomorrow, 6:45pm. Any questions, call Team Captain Cunningham.
